Udayagiri was a suburb of Vidisha city near Besnagar or ancient Vidisha. Another cave has a record of the reign of Kumar Gupta I, engraved in the Gupta era 425-426 AD. It mentions the installation of a statue of Parshvanath by a Jain pilgrimage at the entrance of the cave by a person named Shankar.

This ancient site is located four miles from Bhelsa between the Betwa and Besh rivers. This well-known hill is described in the Udayagiri cavity of Chandragupta II. There are twenty caves here that are famous for Hindu and Jain sculptors.
