Learn how to make a bowline knot . Easy step by step instructions for tying a bowline knot in this knot tying video tutorial.
The bowline is an old maritime knot. It is often referred to as the king of knots. Most people know the story. Make the rabbit come out of the rabbit hole, round the tree and back down the hole, or if you are a fan of the movie jaws. “Little brown eel comes out of the cave... Swims into the hole... Comes out of the hole... Goes back into the cave again.” The bowline is a quick and easy knot to tie and easy to untie after loading. It can be tied around an object as a hitch knot. Tie it around a tree to set up your ridgeline for a tarp. Used by firefighters, arborists and tree workers, for industrial rope access, for climbers, mountaineers, in technical rope rescue, for camping, sailing, boating and in construction. Everywhere really. It should not be tied directly to the climbers harness. If used in critical situations (ie life line situations) it should be tied with a safety either with a Yosemite finish or secured with a backup knot like a double overhand knot. In an emergency it can be tied around the waist one handed.
