The concept of a Land Rover Defender V8 isn’t new, but historically they’ve had about a third the power of the 2023 Defender 90 V8’s 386kW output.
Fitting a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 into a short-wheelbase Defender has done wonders for its performance, but it comes with a series of compromises that leave it being neither fish nor fowl.
We suspect most buyers won’t care as the Defender 90 looks great, goes hard and sounds mega, but for our money the cheaper, less powerful variants make a lot more sense.
