Connect is a group of young people who are keen to help preserve some of Scotland's most valuable history, the memories, dialect and lives of its older generation.
They started the Intergenerational Befriending Project with one sheltered housing scheme which has now spread to four others on the island. The youngsters create memory boxes, boccia, flower arranging, Wii fit, photography of local heritage sites, tea dances, music, Orcadian dialect and baking with pensioners.
Both generations talk about what is important to them, learn from each other, discuss their different perceptions and have fun together. These young people are learning about traditions and experiences that might have been lost and the older residents are relishing the opportunity to be with the young people.
