Here is a quick comparison of 2 of my Yamaha basses both built in 1983. I am playing through my Origin Effects BassRig Super Vintage directly into my Motu M2 sound interface.

This clip is "Cypress Grove" by Clutch and I stripped out the vocals and bass so hopefully you can hear how these both sound in the mix of a song. I am no recording expert but you can definitely hear a difference between the two.
