A 20 minute meditation practice centered around breath work and the activation of the Mula Bandha, or Root Lock. This practice is great anytime of day, and is wonderful for many groups of individuals, especially prenatal yogis!
This is a technique that involves the gentle engagement of the pelvic floor muscles on the exhalation, complimented by the relaxation of those muscles on the inhalation. This breath awareness layered with the slight physical activation is a very grounding experience. It brings your focus from the mind, down into the body, all while the breath and awareness deepen together.
Energetically, this practice helps us to connect with the root and sacral centres, Muladhara and Svadhisthana chakras. Centres that connect us with the elements of earth and water and themes of personal safety, security, stability, pleasure, emotion, creativity, flowing through change, etc.
Physically, this technique can help us to practice both, engaging our pelvic floor muscles to keep them toned (but not in a way that tires or tenses them), and the intentional relaxation of these tissues on the inhale.
