On the court, developer Visual Concepts is sharpening its game with a new physics based player motion system, a revamped shot mechanic that gives you more feedback as to why your shot swished through the basket or clanked off the rim, and a newfound commitment to making triple threat big men more dangerous than ever.
Coaches are typically little more than sideline ornamentation in sports games, but they can make or break your team in NBA 2K18 thanks to a new system proficiency feature. Each coach prefers to run a particular system, like Phil Jackson's triangle offense or Mike D'Antoni's "seven seconds or less" scheme. If your roster fits into that system, you are rewarded with several on-court boosts.
