Coronafocus PCR tests look for the genetic code of the virus. The PCR COVID test involves taking a self-swab of the throat and nose to enable lab analysis at Oncologica’s UKAS accredited laboratory, which is listed as a private provider on Gov.UK.
The PCR test confirms if an individual currently has the virus. Positive PCR tests are genetically sequenced for variant surveillance.
The main steps for doing a self-swab
1) Wash your hands with soap and water.
2) Lay out all the items in the Coronafocus PCR test kit on a clean surface.
3) Blow your nose and wash your hands.
4) Open your mouth wide and rub the swab over your tonsil arches 5 times each side. Avoid the end of the swab touching your teeth, tongue and gums.
5) Put the same swab inside your nose (about 2.5cm up or until you feel some resistance).
6) Put the swab soft tip facing down into the uniquely barcoded tube, snap the swab at the point indicated to enable fitting into tube and screw the lid tight.
7) Put the tube into the protective bag and box, seal and place into the pre-paid envelope provided
8)Activate the swab in the Coronafocus Customer Dashboard with sample taken date using login details emailed on kit purchase.
9) Return via Royal Mail priority post boxes or hand-deliver to the Oncologica laboratory.
10) Results and downloadable certificates available within 24-36 hrs of sample booking into the laboratory in the Coronafocus Customer Dashboard
