Truth be told Mehmed didn't fought the battles personally, but he looked from afar, and thought about the strategies to employ along with his generals (it was too great a risk for the Ottoman empire for the sultan to fight on the battlefield). On the other hand, Vlad the Impaler initiated the fight by night but somehow confused Mehmed's tent with that of the grand viziers' (probably because of bad intel or so the main sources of history portray it).
