Protect your Cordless drill from the elements with a DIY cover for the Clam Plate ice auger mount.

Insulated or uninsulated, a protective drill cover will keep wind, rain, ice and snow out of your expensive drill.

Insulate the backpack with a 1/2" EVA foam to help keep your battery warm so it lasts longer while using the auger in extreme cold.

While the Clam branded drill covers typically cost $59.99 CDN, small backpacks are inexpensive and easy enough to find at many retailers for between $9 and $19.99. Be sure to check local thrift stores and garage or yard sales as you may find one for a buck or two. The minimum size required for this project is approximately 9" wide by 11-1/2" high by 4" deep.

The cable gland used in the video was modified by removing the top nut and threads so that only the middle nut, bottom threads and base nut remain. Adding the LDPE washers stiffens up the edges of the 1" hole and helps prevent any fabric from becoming entangled in the drill chuck during use.
