This was such a fun make. Perfect sewing project for beginners and also great for experienced sewists. I see myself sewing bunting for birthdays and anniversaries and maybe in the future the name of a grandchild spelled out in bright colours (I’m not holding my breath, but miracles do happen!)
This is my first sewing tutorial, so I apologise in advance for some of the editing. Hopefully I get across how to make up this very simple Christmas bunting.
I had previously bought some Christmas fabric, as mentioned from Carroway Cottage, and it’s not until it arrived did I have my light-bulb moment and think it would make great Christmas bunting. Inspired by some bunting I saw in an awesome shop we visited in Swanage back in October I wanted to make bunting that involved as little sewing as possible, but still looked professional and would continue to look great in years to come.
The video will take you through how the template was created and shows the importance of selecting your fabric. If you purchase directional fabric, sometimes it looks OK at an angle, if not you could cut your fabric on the bias so your directional fabric works with this type of template.
I experimented with sizes. For me a 7.5” by 7.5” square worked well for the large flags and a 3.5” by 3.5” square for the smaller flags. You can make your flags any size you want.
Supplies Needed for this Sewing Project
The usual sewing tools – sewing machine, scissors, pins, ruler and iron
Fabric (I purchased two green fabrics for the large flags
½ metre (2 Fat Quarters) of the Holly fabric, and
¼ metre (1 Fat Quarter) of the stars on green.
½ metre (2 Fat Quarters) of the stars on white and ¼ metre (1 Fat Quarter) of stars on red).
These were purchased from [ Ссылка ] – some of this fabric is no longer available. Obviously you can choose whatever fabric you look. Makes lots of bunting or just enough for your space!
Mask Soft Elastic – Either use the elastic from face masks or purchase a reel from Amazon.

Buttons from Your Stash – Optional
Heat’n’Bond – Amazon - [ Ссылка ]
Bias Tape – Amazon - [ Ссылка ]
Lettering – pdf - [ Ссылка ] (This has been created in Microsoft Word. If you don’t have access to Word, just print off this lettering. This will fit onto a 7.5” square comfortably.
Enjoy making your bunting and please let me know how you got on.
Merry Christmas
