The Speaker of the house of representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen has supported the call for a special allotment of quota for women in politics in line with the resolution taken at the Beijing conference, stating that affirmative action is not undemocratic.
Hon. Abbas supported the opening of the States’ Assembly Conference speakers in Abuja on Monday.
PlusTV Emmanuel Ehijene in his report, said the speaker has added his voice to the call for a special quota for women in politics stating that the 10th House is prioritizing Constitutional Reform that will promote women's political participation and representation across all tiers of government in Nigeria.
Abbas says the time has come for all Nigerians to challenge stereotypes in the country and address the imbalances in the system.
The Chairman, Conference of Speaker, Debo Ogundoyin, and the deputy speaker Kogi state assembly, also spoke in a similar vein.
While advocating a special consideration to be given to women to ensure balance in leadership across the country, they also called for the sensitization of women at the grassroots levels.
The 16 days of Activism is gathering momentum and serving as a rallying point in uniting Nigerians towards fighting for the empowerment of women and girls in Nigeria.
