Black and white was the height of fashion in 1920s jewellery. Onyx and diamond rings were made in relatively large numbers, especially in the US.
Here we have an elegant example handcrafted in 14-carat white gold and platinum.
The oval onyx holds a central old cut diamond in a finely millegrained square platinum surround. The milled detailing also adorns the long and thin pierced platinum outer panels which join the finely detailed 14-carat scrolled shoulders and band.
Rings from this period often combine platinum for the top setting with white gold for the band and understructure – platinum for its fineness and white gold for its strength.
This stylish example remains in excellent unworn condition.
