Long before the reality TV stars of the 21st century, cardinal Scipione Borghese sought to increase his family’s reputation and prestige by creating a sprawling suburban estate. Complete with exotic flora and fauna and a purpose-built gallery for his extraordinary art collection, it was the perfect setting in which to entertain and curry diplomatic favors from powerful foreign envoys to the court of his uncle, pope Paul V.
Join art historian and Wonderfeast founder, Giulia Bernardini, for a delightful exploration of Rome’s famed Villa Borghese and the cardinal nephew who was a poster child for nepotism and to whom we owe what is surely one of Europe's loveliest parks and museums.
