Wildfires across Athens, Greece, have continued to rage, leading to the evacuation of homes and hospitals on Monday.
Civil protection authorities have alerted five communities to flee following the evacuation of eight villages on Sunday.
Fire brigade spokesman Vassilis Vathrakogiannis spoke about the firefighter's “superhuman efforts" to contain the fires.
“Civil protection forces battled hard throughout the night, but despite superhuman efforts, the fire evolved rapidly. At this moment, it has reached Mount Pentelicus and is headed in the direction of Penteli,” he said.
Penteli, located in North Athens and the Attica region, also saw two hospitals requiring evacuation.
According to Vathrakogiannis, the fire brigade deployed 670 firefighters, over 150 vehicles and 32 aircraft to deal with the fires.
