The city Yoshkar-Ola capital of the Republic Mari El. Initially, the capital of Mari El was called Tsarevokokshaisk and served as a military fortification. He was built in the 16th century by order of the Russian Tsar Fedor Ioannovich. They did this in order to strengthen the royal power and subordinate the local population-the small Finno-Ugric nation Mari.
