Someone from Malte Marten team told me that the D Aegean 18 is less intuitive than the F# Low Pygmy 21.
I have been lucky enough to at least play with the top layout of a Pygmy, Low Pygmy and an Aegean, and I would have to say that the Aegean feels really amazing. Both the reach and sound of an Aegean layout feel more intuitive to me than a (low) pygmy, even though they are all pentatonic scales.
What I love about the Aegean is that the tone fields 1, 2, and 3 are harmonic, and instead, 3 and 4 are disharmonic. The standard Pygmy disharmonic tone fields are 1 and 3, and 2 and 3. The Low Pygmy disharmonic tone fields are 1 and 2.
Hence, for me personally, the Aegean feels more intuitive and free than the Low Pygmy, and the Pygmy is the least intuitive. The only "problem" with the Aegean (which is the same as with the standard Pygmy) is that the ding is not the root note of the scale. I personally don't see it as a problem as you just need to know how to resolve the end of your song.
