And then, we will decide depending on how this is developing, you know, whether everybody concerned on all sides is respecting the letters and the spirit of these rules. And this will be the base then for our decision at the most appropriate time."

"We see that as we speak, for example at the World Championships in Italy at the moment, where we have athletes, neutral, individual athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports, on the other side also Ukrainian athletes, and we will watch this development very carefully, whether all parties involved then respect the letter and the spirit of these strict conditions. And depending on this development, we will then make the decision in due course about a possible participation of individual, neutral athletes at the Olympic Games in Paris."

STORYLINE:
The International Olympic Committee on Wednesday said decisions had not yet been made regarding "individual neutral athletes" from Russia and Ukraine participating in the Paris 2024 games.

IOC chief Thomas Bach has not deviated from his line that there may be a pathway for some of them to compete as “neutral athletes," without their countries’ flags, names or colours, but that the final decision will come later.

“There’s still one year to go,” Bach said Wednesday. “We have not taken any decision about the participation of individual neutral athletes yet.”

Bach has heaped praise on Paris' preparations this week as the French capital marked the year-to-go milestone to the opening ceremony on July 26, 2024.
