Never Stop Building, in collaboration with Mokuchi Woodworking, hosted the first annual Japanese woodworking festival at Jason Fox's historic farmhouse in central Maine. The event featured demonstrations of traditional Japanese tools, talks and workshops by leading woodworkers, and of course a competition to take the thinnest shaving with a Japanese hand plane. The theme for this first annual event was “Beginner's Mind;”
This was my first exposure to the the Japanese woodworking community and I was in awe of the level of talent and generosity. The master craftsmen including: Jason Fox, Jim Blauvelt, Yann Giguère, Jeff Bearce, and Brian Holcombe were all a pleasure to meet and very much willing to share their advanced knowledge and time with all of the new comers eager to develop their own discipline. Sincere thank you to all who made this special event a huge success, can't wait for next year!
