Ignition timing is very important for good operation of a car, setting the points gap correctly is important. If the gap is too wide or small the spark can be too late or too weak and can be hard to start. Low power, poor fuel economy can both be caused by poor points gap adjustment.
Setting the points gap is a vital but often overlooked bit of maintenance, looking under the distributor cap needs to be done regularly to get a correctly running car. I show you how to set the gap in your points to make your classic car run properly.
I demonstrated this on my Triumph Spitfire 1500 but the process is the same on almost every car with a distributor. Watch out for cars with multiple distributors though, they are adjusted in the same way but you need to do two of them.
