In a significant move to provide unified access to international scholarly research and journal publication, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) scheme on Tuesday.This initiative is set to bridge the gap in access to academic resources, fostering research excellence and youth empowerment positioning India as a global hub for research, learning, and knowledge. The One Nation One Subscription will perform as a Unified Academic Resource Platform. It will be launched on January 1, 2025 and will provide seamless access to over 13,000 journals from 30 major international publishers. Interestingly the government has allocated a budget of ₹6,000 crore for the scheme, which will cover a period of three years that is from 2025 to 2027.
