The advisor and conductor and musician of C asean Consonant from #Malaysia, Mohd Yazid Zakaria and Noor Leyzam Bin Ali Leyzam Ali introduce Malaysian's famous musical instrument "Gambus." #Gambus is a stringed instrument with a body shaped like a pear. It is played in a variety of styles in Malay folk music, primarily as the lead instrument in Ghazal music. Brought into Malaya by the Persian and Middle Eastern traders (Source: thestar.com). The technique required in playing the gambus demands strong articulation of melody and rhythm, which can only be possible with the use of a plectrum or "pick." A long flexible pick that places the wrist at a certain angle added a tonal sound. The thinner plectrum gives a delicate sound with subtle tone variation, while the heavier one emanates a lounder, heavier tone.
C asean Consonant has accentuated the beauty of local traditions among new blood of ASEAN in order for them to cherish their own traditions and,at the same time, embrace diversity. Ultimately, they can find a way to form a common ASEAN identity.
