Joseph Nye, together with Robert Keohane, is the co-founder of the international relations theory of Neoliberalism, which was developed and published in their joint 1977 book, Power and Interdependence. In 1990 Nye wrote Bound to Lead: The Changing Nature of American Power, pioneering the ideas of “Hard Power” vs “Soft Power” in national and international politics. Nye studied for a PhD at Harvard University, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1964, and in 2011 was named on the list of top global thinkers by foreign policy magazine.
