How do you cut dados? I use a dado stack that’s almost as old as me.

I’m in the process of making a Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer hat box and a separate shadow box. I’m rabbiting out the grooves so a bottom and backplate made from Baltic birch ply can sit flush. I use a hand-me-down dado stack given to me by my late uncle. It’s made in America and almost as old as me.
