India has assumed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Chairship for 2023. Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will visit India in May for SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting. As India currently chairs the SCO, invitations were sent to all the member nations including Pakistan, China. Notably, Bilawal Bhutto will be the first Pakistani Foreign Minister to visit India in 12 years. Pakistan accepting the invitation hinted at a thaw between the two countries strained ties. However, Bhutto has said that there will be no bilateral talks with Indian Counterpart Dr Jaishankar. On April 20 in a press conference, Bhutto said that SCO does not allow countries to raise bilateral issues on its platform. Pakistan confirmed that Bhutto will lead the delegation for SCO Foreign Ministers’ meet in Goa. Pakistan FM Bhutto said that the country is committed to SCO and has taken part in earlier events as well. SCO currently comprises 8 Member States, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Eight member countries of SCO represent around 42% of the world population and 25% of the global GDP.
