"Adult Children of Parental Alienation: A Deeper Understanding and a Way Forward"
In this 2-hour presentation, Dr. Amy J.L. Baker will present key findings from research and coaching about the experience of parental alienation from the perspective of the adult alienated children. Specific topics include: PA is not the sole purview of bitter mothers in response to divorce, alienation is not always fully internalized by the child, PA involves multiple losses, alienating parents function like cult leaders, PA is associated with long-term negative effects, alienating parents engage in child maltreatment, and there are multiple catalysts to the reconciliation process. The talk will also go into a detailed discussion of the philosophy and steps involved in writing a letter to an adult alienated child.
Dr. Amy J.L. Baker has a PhD in Developmental Psychology from Teachers College of Columbia University. She is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in parental alienation and psychological maltreatment of children. She is the author or co-author of 8 books and over 115 articles. Some of her books are Adult children of parental alienation, surviving parental alienation, co-parenting with a toxic ex, and the high conflict custody battle. She has conducted trainings for legal and mental health professionals around the country.
