- The sonata consists of 5 sections (not separate enough to be called movements); the first of which opens with a theme on the cornetti and a countermelody on the violin followed by an initial bass entry on the bassoon. After only ten bars the instruments divide into wind and strings choirs playing alternately in the old Venetian polychoral style. Indeed the sonata's construction and change of metric between common and triple pulses alludes to the old 'canzon da sonar'.
