India is one of the largest rice-producing countries in the world, and it is also a significant exporter of rice. In recent years, India has emerged as one of the top rice exporters globally, competing with other major rice-exporting countries such as Thailand and Vietnam.

According to the data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India exported around 13.92 million metric tons of rice in the financial year 2020-2021, with a value of around 66.38 billion Indian rupees (approximately 889.48 million US dollars). The major destinations for Indian rice exports include countries in the African continent, followed by other Asian and Middle Eastern countries.

India exports various types of rice, including Basmati and non-Basmati varieties. Basmati rice is a premium quality, aromatic long-grain rice, which is primarily grown in the northern states of India. Non-Basmati rice, on the other hand, is grown in different parts of the country and comes in different shapes and sizes.
