Welcome to #EHSTraining with Frontline!
Let's talk about stormwater management.
Studies by the US EPA and various universities have shown that stormwater runoff is a major source of water pollution. Activities that take place at industrial facilities such as material handling and storage are often exposed to the weather. As runoff from rain or snow melt comes into contact with these materials, it picks up pollutants and transports them to storm sewer systems, rivers, lakes, or coastal waters.
Water pollution degrades surface waters. Making them unsafe for drinking, restricting swimming, damaging fishing, and affecting the navigability of many of our nation's waters. Congress has directed the EPA to undertake a wide range of activities including providing technical and financial assistance to states and other jurisdictions to help such entities improve their stormwater management programs. The Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan or SWPPP is designed to prevent pollution from stormwater runoff.
