The Chief Albert Luthuli Memorial Lecture was inaugurated in 2004 as part of national government’s National Legacy Projects, whose objective was to affirm marginalised histories and redefine South Africa’s national heritage landscape. The Chief Albert Luthuli Legacy Project included Luthuli’s house in Groutville; which is now a Museum; a public bronze sculpture installed in the KwaDukuza CBD and his grave at the United Congregational Church, Groutville.
