10 years on from the World Superbike Championship’s (WorldSBK) last console videogame outing, Italian developer Milestone has released SBK 22, bringing the 2022 season’s circuits, riders and motorcycles to PlayStation, Xbox and PC as of the 15th of September.
The game borrows heavily from Milestone’s other hugely successful motorbike game, MotoGP 22, in the way it looks, plays and feels, but the question is: is it different enough to warrant a second purchase from bike fans?
Engine sounds have thankfully been overhauled for SBK 22 but the game lacks a lot of the features found in its MotoGP stablemate; including the superlative Valentino Rossi-inspired NINE mode; cross-platform online modes and split-screen multiplayer.
On the other hand, it retains MotoGP 22’s convincing Unreal Engine visuals, bike physics and is the only way you can officially re-create the superhuman exploits of Alvaro Bautista, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea et al in videogame form. Even better, it’s priced well below its racing game contemporaries.
Find out our verdict as we go hands-on with SBK 22. Spoiler alert: if you are a diehard WorldSBK fan this could be your new favourite game...
