The Ulster History Park was built in 1990 ,in Gortin Glen near Omagh Co. Tyrone by the local council. It had many replica buildings and monuments from Mesolithic huts , Neolithic house and tombs, Iron Age Rath and Crannog to an early Christian Monastic site and Medieval houses. All the exhibits were reconstructed using traditional methods .
All in all a brilliant site for anyone interested in Irish history.
Unfortunately the park was forced to close its doors in 2004, as it was losing money . It then lay abandoned for 14 years , and the exhibits became overgrown and started to decay .
It is now owned by a local business man who has tidied up the 35 acre site and uses it as a wedding and private party venue . He also built a small hotel and a campsite .
Although some of the replica exhibits have rotted away , there is still enough left to make it worthwhile visiting. And I can recommend the full Irish breakfast in the hotel.
