The governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses claims to have been appointed by Jesus to serve as his channel for dispensing spiritual food to all Christians today. However, David Splane asserts that although this channel existed in the first century, it disappeared after the death of the apostles and needed to be restored in the early 20th century. However, this teaching does not harmonize with what Jesus said about his congregation.
