It all began in 1890s when a Chinese immigrant from the Shandong Province abruptly prepped his lunch with black bean sauce and noodle at the port of Incheon, South Korea. In Korea, we call this dish Jja Jangmyeon, which literally means Fried Sauce Noodle. The popularity of this dish rose instantly because of its cheap price as well as the addictive taste that'll bring you back to their table. It is often compared to what spaghetti is to many Americans: a noodle dish from childhood with memorable flavor.
