The Main Air Compressors are very important Machinery because it will supply Starting Air to the Main Engine specially during Departure and Arrival in a Port. It is also use to supply Starting Air to the Main Generators. It is also use to supply air to Pneumatic Temperature and pressure Controllers.
What is the Purpose of Overhauling the Main Compressors?
1. When the Main Air Compressor is due for Continuous Machinery Survey every Five(5) years.
2, When there is overheating of the Electric Motor.
3. When there is excessive vibration during operation.
4. When the Capacity of the Main Air Compressor can not be met.
5. When the consumption of the crankcase Oil is excessive,
Before opening-up the Main Air Compressor, you must have to Check the Spare Parts or Repair Parts you need on your Spare Rooms, Spare Box and Bins are Available such as piston, piston Rings, Bearings, and etc. You must have to check also that all Specials Tools you need in the Disassembly and Assembly are available.
After opening up all parts of the Main Air Compressor
a) Check the piston rings are in good order.
b) Check the Pistons condition.
c) Check the valves condition.
d) Check the connecting rod bearings for wear.
e) Refer to the Instruction Manual for the tolerable clearances.
f) Check also the condition of the cylinder bores.
