Who was Joanna in the bible?
Some time later Jesus left and traveled through cities and towns, announcing the good news of the Kingdom of God. The twelve disciples went with him, and also some women who had been delivered from evil spirits and cured of illnesses. (Luke 8:1-2a)
Jesus looked at women with different eyes; he treated them with a tenderness hitherto unknown, defended their dignity, welcomed them as disciples; he treated them as human beings with needs, flaws, and talents. He recognized their value. No one had treated them like that. People saw them as a source of ritual impurity. Breaking traditions and customs, Jesus approached them without any fear; he sat at the table with them and even allowed his feet to be touched by a prostitute who was very grateful to him. They were equally free to talk, follow, be friends with, and serve Jesus; they could relate to him in the same way that men related to him. This was, for example, the case of Joana, whose story is discussed in this video.
