A name is important and personal. A name is usually chosen after much thought
and reflects something important to the giver. Babies are given a name when they
are born. Some families have a tradition to name the first son after the father to
preserve the family name. Out of respect, Jewish families name their children for
beloved relatives who have passed away. I know quite a few children who were
named after favorite movie stars. Messianic Rabbi Jeff Zaremsky relates the first
name God is given in the first book of the Bible.
