Donald Trump has said the US will "embrace peace with all who seek it" as he sought to ratchet down tensions with Iran.
The US President spoke today after a revenge strike from Iran on two military bases, occupied by US and UK personnel, in Iraq overnight.
These attacks came following the President's ordered killing of general Qasem Soleimani, who was slain by a US airstrike.
Speaking from the White House, the US leader trumpeted the strength of his nation's forces - and its "big, powerful, accurate, lethal and fast" missiles - though said it had had no desire to flex its military might.
In a message to Iran he said: "We want you to have a future and a great future, one that you deserve.
"The United States will is ready to embrace peace with anyone who seeks it."
Despite this conciliatory tone later in his speech, he also told the nation: "Your campaign of terror, murder and mayhem cannot continue any longer."
