Qurbani, Udhiyah, the Eid al-Adha Lamb
Muslims call the meat that they give during Eid Al-Adha many different things. No matter what you call it, you and I are talking about the same spiritual sacrifice, when Prophet Ibrahim was asked by Allah (swt) to sacrifice his son. Both he and his son knew it was the right thing to do. But the mercy of Allah is infinite, and Allah replaced his son with a great ram.
Today, Muslims give Qurbani meat on Eid al-Adha to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's commitment. One-third for their families, one-third for their neighbors and one-third for the less fortunate, or all of it for the less fortunate. The point is to give back to the community in the name of God.
Your community, your neighbors right here in the United States.
One in 7 Americans will go hungry while their Muslim neighbors celebrate Eid al-Adha.
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “That man is not from me who sleeps contentedly while his neighbor sleeps hungry.”
