Come join Kenny and me, because you Must see inside the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. This is one of China’s top sights and the largest palace in the world! Oh, and you must see how the Peking Roasted Duck is prepared and eaten.
Are you ready to explore: Our second day in China and super excited to explore. Today we are meeting up with our free personal guide. Her name is Washa. She will spend the day with us, showing us around Beijing. We will meet her at the train station. But before we meet with her, we need to take a 25-minute bus ride to the train station. We paid the bus fare with cash until we buy our Metro cards. The bus ride was scenic and enjoyable even though we had standing room only.
We meet up with Washa. She helped us buy our Metro Cards and started our day. The first stop was the Forbidden City. I can’t tell you how crowded and frustrating it was getting into the Forbidden City. We waited online on a so-called line for over 45 minutes of people pushing and shoving to get through security. This will be an unforgettable moment.
We started exploring the Forbidden City and after exploring for over two hours we visited Jingshan Park. At Jingshan Park, hike up the mountain. The mountain is 150 ft high. Once we reached the top, it rewarded us with a magnificent view of the Forbidden City and Beijing City.
After an entire afternoon exploring the Forbidden City and Jingshan Park in 90-degree weather. We agreed on the need to break for lunch. We were hot, tired, and hungry.
The next Stop FOOD!!
The Tianwaitian Beijing Roast Duck restaurant. It excited us to try Peking Roast Duck for the very first time. Oh my, the food was delicious!! The Peking Roasted Duck tastes the same as chicken. We stuffed our faces. Have you or will you ever eat Peking duck?
After eating a delicious lunch, we were ready to continue exploring. Washa took us to our next location. After a quick bus ride and a brief walk, we arrived at The Old Town Beijing. We explored Old Town Beijing and stopped to visit a Temple of Confucius in Beijing (a university).
We had such a lovely time here. Kenny even joined a group photography class. Which he did not pay for lol. They welcomed him with open arms. We enjoyed interacting with them.
Watching Kenny interact with the students of this photography class, I realized that the best part of traveling isn’t seeing the most famous sites; it isn’t just running from one attraction to the next. It’s about moments like these. Meeting people, crossing those cultural lines, breaking through language barriers, being accepted for who we are, and accepting people for who they are. And although we love and enjoy visiting those famous sites, it’s moments like these we remember and cherish the most.
Cheers to traveling and meeting unfamiliar people.
We truly hope you enjoyed this China vlog - there are several more to come as we are traveling through China for the next month!

► WHO WE ARE?
We are Gladys & Kenny, from Long Island, NY. We've always had a passion for traveling. We finally made our dreams a reality. In January 2018 we downsized and take the necessary steps to pursue our dream, to travel full time for as long as we can. We rented our house, moved into our attached studio apartment, and continued to travel on a part-time basis until it prepared us for full-time travel. On June 30, 2019, we left to travel the world full-time. The first stop was Bali, Indonesia. It wasn't a simple decision to leave our friends and family. However, you only live once and we didn't want to live with any regrets. We want to document our journey, so we recently did so with vlogs on YouTube and Social Media.
Join us. It's been one crazy ride so far.
