[ Ссылка ] *Come on a Wine & Food Tour with BKWine* --- Winemaker Rodrigo Romero at Vina Maquis in the Colchagua Valley in Chile talks about the challenges in Chile of making a good carmenere wine. It is in fact a very difficult variety to grow. Carmenere will give green characters to the wine if it is grown on the wrong types of soil. To compensate for that wine growers tend to harvest late and will then get grapes that are too ripe, with less freshness. At Vina Maquis they are fortunate to have a soil type that is very good for carmenere and can therefore make some excellent wines from this very Chilean grape variety. The carmenere 2013has an alcohol contents of 13.5, a pH close to 3.7, and a total acidity (sulphuric) around 3.5. The Vina Maquis carmenere actually contains also small portions of other grapes: cabernet franc, petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon… They are allowed to use up to 15% “other” grapes (as in most wine regions in the world).
