- Today you get to meet an amazing woman who is impacting people's lives, she is such an inspiration. Check it out. So, Michelle, you're the founder of AdaptAbilities. For people who don't know, what is #AdaptAbilities?
- AdaptAbilities provides #respite care for families who have children with #disabilities.
- What exactly is respite?
- Respite is an opportunity for families to get a break from the challenges of caring for a child with special needs. So really, it is time for self-care.
- How did AdaptAbilities all get started? What's the story?
- Well, as a teacher, I heard stories from not only students that I was teaching, but also from their families, and there were gaps in the system, so there wasn't really places for them to go, as teen, as youth. So because of that, I saw that need, and decided to create AdaptAbilities, and it really created, started with one program at a time.
- And you also have a fundraiser.
- Yes.
- That's coming up.
- Yeah, our key fundraiser is on April 25th, and it's a Fun-Raising Dinner, and we're really trying to stress on that fun. And so, the funding that we do get from the government, really, what it does is it allows us to hire our staff, but what it doesn't do is allow any kind of budget to do all the things that we want to do when we're with those children.
- [Jesse] Describe for me the journey that your participants go through, and the feeling that you get to be a part of that.
- Yeah, it's pretty incredible to see the #smiles on their faces, the successes that they experience, the friends that they make, and it's, and the families, and when we see and hear their stories and how that impacts them, kinda keeps you going, and we've got an incredible team of people that are all working hard to be able to create that wonderful experience for our children, and now, young adults.
