On the momentous date of May 5, 2005, the splendid commencement of The Happiest Homecoming on Earth ceremony was heralded with a heartfelt dedication by the then-Disney CEO, Michael Eisner. The festivities were brimming with joy and excitement, featuring dazzling fireworks and stirring speeches from Julie Andrews, the esteemed ambassador for the 50th-anniversary celebrations, and Art Linkletter, the original TV anchor for the opening day broadcast. Musical enchantment filled the air as Christina Aguilera graced the event with a soulful rendition of "When You Wish Upon A Star." At the same time, LeAnn Rimes charmed the audience with the 50th-anniversary theme song "Remember When," a masterpiece composed by Richard Marx.
A remarkable video conference connected stars from various corners of the globe, including the Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and the construction site of Hong Kong Disneyland, making it a truly global celebration. Among the luminaries present at the live video conference was the talented Wayne Brady, a renowned actor, and former Walt Disney World Resort cast member, adding an extra touch of magic to the occasion.
Before the grand ceremony commenced, Disneyland Resort president Matt Ouimet made an exciting announcement during a media presentation at Disney California Adventure Park.
