Since the beginning of Russia's war on Ukraine, Latvia has seen a surge in citizens joining the National Guard to get military training. But they are not the only ones trained to maintain the national defense – so are civilians. Latvia holds nationwide exercises each year combining training for both military and civilian readiness for a hypothetical attack that local residents tell Teri Schultz no longer seems impossible.
