A local family hopes a new test at birth will spare others the difficult journey they’re on. For the first time, there is a successful treatment for Spinal Muscular Atrophy – the leading genetic cause of death in children.
Now all newborns in Minnesota will get screened for the disease in hopes that early intervention diminishes its life-threatening effects.
