At least 120 people were killed and 200 injured when a blaze ripped through a wedding venue hosting a large crowd of people in the Al-Hamdaniya district in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh late on Tuesday. Early assessments suggest that the flames may have been ignited by fireworks used during the celebrations. Highly flammable ceiling panels then caught fire and caused its rapid spread.
Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari said a formal investigation has been opened into the incident.
