The OPTICON 8 MK2 floorstander borrows technologies and design sensibilities from Dali’s premium offerings. This large and unique floorstanding speaker has been developed, designed, and built by DALI in Denmark.
First, let’s glance at the core technologies of the OPTICON 8 MK2. Dali starts by integrating their patented Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) Gen 2 technology in the the heart of the magnet motor system of the drivers to minimise coloration and distortion. Then it integrates their latest generation of wood fibre based woofers which are developed and manufactured at the brand’s production facilities in Denmark. This is followed by Dali’s hybrid tweeter module that features a soft dome and a planar ribbon tweeter combined to deliver clarity and ultra-wide dispersion. The OPTICON 8 MK2 also integrates dual-flare reflex ports to minimise turbulence and effectively reinforce low-frequency performance.
The Dali OPTICON 8 MK2 is a 3-and-half-way loudspeaker featuring 3 crossover frequencies that are 380Hz, 2.2kHz and 14kHz. Bang in the centre of the speaker is a combination of the hybrid tweeter and a 6.5” mid-range driver that delivers highly-localised mid and high frequency reproduction. These are followed by dual 8” woofers tuned to reproduce low-mid and low bass frequencies with utmost efficiency.
The cabinet of the OPTICON 8 MK2 is crafted from real wood veneer to form a rigid construction that reduces cabinet resonances. Additionally separate chambers inside the cabinet also allow each woofer to be individually tuned to perfection. The hefty floorstander graciously sits on top of heavy-duty spike feet for isolation from the floor and to eliminate rattling and noises. For input connectivity, the floorstander sports gold-plated binding posts with Bi-wire and Bi-Amp support.
