An attacker with a knife stabbed several young children and at least one adult, leaving some with life-threatening injuries, in a lakeside park in a town in the French Alps on Thursday, authorities said.

President Emmanuel Macron described the assault in Annecy as an 'attack of absolute cowardice'. Police arrested the attacker, who was in his 30s, said the interior minister, Gérald Darmanin.
