The Turkish Air Force F-16 Demonstration team, 'SoloTürk', was flown on the first day of the Royal international Air Tattoo 2018 by Captain Erhan Günar. The teams second display of the show, on the Sunday, was flown by Captain Serdar Doğan. After the final day of the Tattoo the team were presented with the Paul Bowen trophy for the best solo jet demonstration.
Only the US and Israel operate more F-16s than Turkey, making the Turkish Air Force one of the world's leading users of this famous fighter. The single-seat F-16Cs and two-seat F-16Ds it operates - around 240 in all - were mostly built locally by Turkish Aerospace Industries. The Solotürk demonstration, piloted this year by Capt Erhan Günar and Capt Serdar Doğan, uses a specially painted Block 40 F-16C from 132 Filo (Squadron) stationed at the 3rd Main Jet Base at Konya. Turkey first sent F-16s to the Air Tattoo at Cottesmore in 2001; Solotürk made its debut in 2011 and has returned on several occasions since, most recently in 2017.
