Dr. Jan Kubik joins us as our first Guest Speaker discussing contemporary political culture and society in Poland and Hungary, including the governance of Orban and Kaczynski, opposition movements, particularly in Poland, and prognoses for the region in the immediate future.
Dr. Jan Kubik currently serves as Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University, and previously served as Director of the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London. He has published extensively on the role of civil society, protest politics, and collective memory in Poland. He has also worked with multiple scholars on post-Communist transition and state development throughout Eastern Europe in a comparative way.
Unfortunately, Dr. Kubik's schedule couldn't match this class, and so I am providing a talk he gave for the 2019 session, which some may pick up on with-then contemporary references to Donald Trump
